Seven year old thinking..

Just the other day, Maya & I were having a talk about why it is important to think before you speak. I was explaining to her how just thinking for a moment makes your choices more meaningful & full of intention. She was wide-eyed taking it all in and then says,
"Mama...whenever I am doing something at school, I turn my brain on like it has a switch on the side of my head *she pretends to click it on* and whenever we move to a new subject, I click and move the first to the back of my brain for safe keeping and then I pull the new subject forward to the front of my head. Isn't that a great idea, Mama?"

It is a great idea, Maya.

I just adore my girl.

Happy Halloween Week!

When witches go riding,

and black cats are seen,

the moon laughs and whispers,

‘tis near Halloween.

What I'd Really Like to Know

We have had a really rough week. Maya was sick for 4 days with the flu last week and around 3am today, River woke up crying & feverish. I have been up & down all night, every night.. for a week now taking care of my poor sick babes. I am happy to report that Miss Maya has recovered & is doing well. She went back to school today & only has a mild cough left. Now, I'm meditating on getting River well & keeping all of our immune systems strong through this coming season.

On one hand, I am eating up all the snuggle time I am getting with them. It is so rare these days and I can't help but be a little selfish.

On the other hand, don't you just ache when your children are sick? There is no worse feeling in the world then knowing your baby is hurting & there is nothing you can do. Well besides the whole tea & herbs, rest & plenty of liquids bit...and lots & lots of lovin'...but, you know..

Just a few moments ago, my boy claimed to be "wide awake" from napping all day (as his heavy eyes kept closing) and he also claimed that he was really "tired-ish awake" and asked me to read some Dune Boy to him in bed.

So I did...and as I suspected he was asleep minutes into the book.

I stayed & stared...
I rubbed his head & the downy, baby hair that still grows on his forehead..
I caressed is soft, still slightly chubby arm and marveled how at some angles he looks so grown up, like a little man and at other angles he looks just as he did the day he was born..round, rosey cheeks, hair sticking to his moist forehead...

...and I cried.

...and I'm crying still.

What I would like to know is....
:: Will the next ten years go by as quickly as the first?

Things I'm loving right now..

:: This silly TEN year old boy & his amazing sister who fill all my days with Love...

:: These elves created by two amazing children that have gotten so many hours of play already in the fairy tree house...

:: APPLES!! Making apple sauce, apple cider, apple butter, apple cake, apple pie...

:: No words are needed..I just wish it was scratch & sniff...

:: All the creating that led up to my sweet boy turning TEN! And all the amazing people who came out to celebrate & love on him on his very special day :)

:: This very sweet girl who worked so hard making a VERY special blanket for her brothers birthday...and then telling him she said a wish & special blessing for each knot she tied...awww..could she be any sweeter?

:: The creation of Halloween costumes is filling my days...

:: This boy & this girl who made up a FABULOUS game of QUIDDITCH after thier Mama finished their Harry & Hermonie costumes, involving Hula Hoop Goal posts, Broomsticks & a tennis ball "snitch"...

:: This boy who will not take off his Harry Potter glasses or cloak or wash his forehead to get the "scar" off...

:: This pumpkin that this little girl carved all by herself...

:: Watching my babies explore the changing seasons..

:: Cold, rainy Autumn days spent knitting & watching Threes Company :)

:: The colors of Autumn..The other day, River said, "Mama, every year the Earth paints the trees celebration colors, just for my birthday!"

Now that's a lot to be grateful for.

Blessings to you my friends!

Forever Young

This song has made me cry tears of joy since the day my babies were born. I feel so connected to these words..like he spoke them for me for my own children. Today, I honor River by posting the lyrics as a prayer for what I hope for him in life.
My sweet boy.
I am so glad he is mine!

May the good lord be with you
Down every road you roam
And may sunshine and happiness
Surround you when you're far from home
And may you grow to be proud
Dignified and true
And do unto others
As you'd have done to you
Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you'll always stay
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young

May good fortune be with you
May your guiding light be strong
Build a stairway to heaven
With a prince or a vagabond

And may you never love in vain
And in my heart you will remain
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young
Forever young
Forever young

And when you finally fly away
Ill be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime
No one can ever tell

But whatever road you choose
I'm right behind you, win or lose
Forever young, forever young
Forever young ,forever young
Forever young, forever young
For, forever young, forever young

Ten Days of Honoring my Sweet Boy

Has it really been 10 years?
Is that possible?
Can it be so?
Seems like only yesterday,
I was watching my belly grow.

You stretched and squirmed and hiccuped,
and wriggled all around.
Growing deep within me,
It was true love that I found.

On the day that you were born,
I felt my world stand still,
as I held you in my arms
and your tiny hands unfurled.

I laid there wondering how,
the rest of the world could do,
their day to day activities,
as I cradled life so new.

For a miracle had happened
& he was curled in my embrace,
Shouldn't we all be singing and celebrating?
Have you seen his beautiful face?

"Welcome to the World Sweet Boy!
We are so glad you came!"
I quietly whispered in your ear,
as we gave to you, your name.

River, for your place of birth,
in the warm waters of a birthing pool on our kitchen floor.
Wildmen, so you may have the courage
to embrace a life of adventure as you walk outside our door.

I promise to encourage & nourish you
And value all your dreams.
For I believe your heart & mine,
are connected at the seams.

I've never felt prouder,
Never felt so much pride,
As saying your my son,
And just knowing your alive.

You ARE.
And for that I am forever blessed.
I am thankful everyday for you.
I think your just the best~

I am still the lucky one..
And you will forever be my sweet, sweet boy.
my baby sunshine, my woogie, my bubba, my Rivee,
The one who taught me joy.

Never forget sweet boy, how much love I have for you..
& ever
& always!

(to the moon & beyond)
